HNWI Relocalisation in 2024

05/09/2024
In 2024, a record 128,000 millionaires are expected to change residence worldwide, marking a 6.6% increase on the previous year. This trend is fuelled by factors such as changes in tax policy, improving market conditions and the desire for a better standard of living. This impressive figure, revealed by the Henley & Partners report, represents a significant increase on the 120,000 relocations of high net worth individuals recorded in 2023.

Among the destinations favoured by these millionaires, Europe stands out for its growing attractiveness, with its cultural richness, high quality of life, robust healthcare systems, excellent global connectivity, political stability and well-developed property markets.

According to a Knight Frank survey of over 700 high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), Monaco is the second most sought-after destination after Verbier, Switzerland. The Principality is particularly attractive to Generation X and post-war millionaires, while increasingly appealing to younger generations, such as millennials and Generation Z. Studies by Oxford Economics and the European Commission explain this popularity, showing that the Principality excels in several areas:
  • It ranks first for quality of life, quality of the environment and human capital,
  • Second for infrastructure and mobility,
  • and third for economic strength,
  • Its proximity to the south of France, with its well-developed infrastructure, also enhances its appeal to millionaires.
